I love the sea; it gives me absolute peace and connects me with myself in an extraordinary way. The sunsets I can see at sea are simply my “best moment in the world,” there’s no better explanation. And well, being a woman from the coast (Lima is my hometown)… it’s quite understandable that I have a weakness for the sea.
Life gave me the opportunity to experience that for 8 days… Yes, 8 days! And although years have passed since I took that trip, I still dream of the wonderful colors that sea can have, because it wasn’t just one; with the different textures of the sand, different on each island and complementing the incredible color of its sea. It could go from blue, to neon blue, to turquoise, to emerald green… a whole palette of colors.
And all this wonder of nature was complemented by my vessel, a charming 4-masted sailing ship. And yes, again, a sailboat! Remember when you were in primary school and studied about the conquerors by sea, pirates, sea battles… all made of wood, with their sails, their sailors… Well, my vessel had that same magic.
The on-board experience is just as if you were on a private sailboat, on a vessel where it’s just you and your friends. It had a total capacity for 170 people, which provides excellent personalization in service. Walking on the deck every day and seeing the ropes on the masts, the furled sails, the sailors doing their daily tasks; it’s an invaluable experience. And not forgetting that I was sailing the Andaman Sea – what more could one ask for?
One day I could be sitting on the nets at the bow, with only the sea below. Another day I could climb up to the very mast, like in pirate times, and have a 360º view of pure paradise. Then I could be in the control cabin looking at maps and compasses with one of the officers explaining basic terms to me. I could also do a sailor’s job and help hoist the sails by pulling on the ropes, then I had to roll them up to keep the deck tidy… and the most incredible thing: maneuvering the helm wheel in real time!
